It happened again when I used the new reservation function in Google Maps. I have seen it before, although that time it was for reservations on the night bus between Tokyo and Osaka.
What happened was something that I would not have expected in Japan: Tourist pricing. Or at least not the same pricing on the Japanese and English websites.
I got a reservation form and the reservation was very smooth. Less than 30 seconds. On the English site. But when my wife did a reservation (at the same time, actually), she got a lot more: coupons, offers of a special menu for the kids, reduced price for ladies, drink bar included, that sort of thing.
Something similar happened when we booked the night bus to Osaka. I got one price, my wife got another – much better. Of course, on the Japanese site.
So the advice is simple: Always check the Japanese site, if you have to using Google Translate. It might pay off.
